Many parents in this situation receive only minimal  support or understanding from their relatives and friends. When  bereaved parents contact us we endeavour to help by talking with them and inviting them to our monthly meetings, locations and times can be found by clicking on the links above. These meetings are open and informal and they provide comfort and assistance to the parents, grandparents or anyone affected by the loss of a baby, by bringing them together with others who have a similar loss. Glasgow-sands is a local  support group and run by volunteers, who are all bereaved parents.

Glasgow SANDS Monthly Meetings for Southern General

Meetings are held at The Albany Centre, 44 Ashley Street, Glasgow G3 6DS on the 1st Wednesday of every month, 7.00 - 9.00pm. Our group is well attended and gives parents, family and friends a chance to meet up and receive support from one another. If any more information is required please do not hesitate to contact a befriender.

Our Befrienders can be contacted via telephone, see our Contact Us page or via the contact form. They also attend the monthly support meetings across the three hospitals.

The table below lists the befrienders who regularly attend Southern General.

Befrienders are bereaved parents and volunteers, therefore, we can not guarantee that all of those allocated to a hospital will be there at every meeting. Should you wish to leave a message for a specific befriender you can email them via our contact form.

We are so sorry that your baby has died.

Memory BoxIt may feel very hard to take in the reality of what has happened and to have any thoughts of what to do next. However, many parents have told us how important the memories of the short time they have with their baby are and that they have found it comforting to have reminders that they can look at and hold.

This ‘Always Loved, Never Forgotten’ memory box is given by Glasgow Sands as a way to create some memories which you can cherish.
